Cattlemen’s Classic
Over the course of this three-day event, close to 3,000 high school students gather at Kearney High School to compete in this NSAA championship event. High school wrestling teams from across Nebraska face-off in Kearney for a one-day bracket tournament to crown a dual champion at the NSAA State Dual Championship at Buffalo County Fairgrounds in Kearney. It isn’t easy to turn a 1970s building inside out, but the developer Woodsonia reports it is ahead of schedule at Conestoga Marketplace.
Cruise Nite, the largest of Kearney’s community events celebrates the love for classic cars and features a car show ‘on the bricks’ and a series of other car shows and events during Cruise Nite Week. The Steering Committee created the event specifically for patrons who are unable to travel to the show and shine events. As a side benefit, other community members can enjoy seeing the cars as well.

Cruise Nite Events Schedule
Even though people will be looking to have fun during Cruise Nite- KPD is cracking down on people who break laws during the six-day affair. Officers will be out in force focusing on alcohol violations, which include minor in possession, open container, and driving under the Influence of alcohol or drugs. Kernick tells NTV that wholesome fun is what Cruise Nite is about. Cruise Nite has been a boost to attract people to visit Kearney. The Kearney Tourism Bureau says people who attended Cruise Night would most likely never visit Kearney; these people spend money during the six days of festivities, which helps the local economy.

The growth and development of Cruise Nite has left some people stunned. Over the years Cruise Nite Kearney has showcased Model A & Model T classics from the turn of the century through the ’20s, ’30s, ’40s, and countless cars from the 1950s. You’ll see Chevrolet, Ford, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Plymouth, Studebaker, Rambler, AMC, Mercury, Lincoln, Javelins, Mercedes, Austin Healey, and of course many Mustangs, Thunderbird’s and Corvettes, plus many more makes and models.
Fort Kearny Outdoor Expo showcases fun outdoor activities at the beautiful Fort Kearny State Recreational Area. Fishing, archery, kayaking, camping and outdoor cooking are just some of the activities at this free event. An estimated 35,000 people attended the event with more than 500 vehicles registered for the Saturday Show & Shine. Cruise Nite, Kearney’s signature event, attracts thousands of automobile enthusiasts to Kearney during the third week of July. It was awarded as one of Nebraska’s top tourism events in 2022.
Crews are on scene after train cars derailed on track about 7 miles east of Kearney near Highway 30 and Highway 10. “Well, we looked at our schedule and said, no, our schedule is full,” Kernick recalled of the year the event was suggested.
